Chiharu Shiota is a Japanese artist celebrated for her installations and performances, and best known for creating monumental, delicate and poetic environments. Among the important artist's themes are memory and forgetting, dream and sleep, traces of the past and childhood. Shiota uses different mediums to give substance to these subjects, the most famous of which is impenetrable installations made with black son that often surround their device objects important to the artist because of their symbolic content. Stretched across the space of the gallery or museum, the strange black cocoons son expressed the desire of the artist to design the space and represent the physical anguish of the artist known.
