Letha Wilson merges natural landscapes with poured concrete.
She printed her original photos from a negative, here she used five taken on a rocky beach in Washington and a lava field in Hawaii. Then she folded the photographs into fan-like pleats before placing them into a mold and then adding cement. Curing into the ridges of the folded photograph, the cement picks up a transfer of the images rich hue.
These folds as an accordion, mimick the panoramic experience of looking at something that can never be viewed entirely at once.
A similar work was displayed in the exhibition ‘In the abstract’ in 2017 at the MASS MoCA, Massachussetts, USA
