FR:

Vandenberg saw himself as a témoin à charge witness in Molenbeek. He felt an urgent need to bear witness to its metropolitan dynamism, as well as its problematics. With colourful paper experiments, he unites these contradictions in his art.

In his studio in Molenbeek, he found unprecedented artistic freedom; he painted found pieces of cardboard in attractive colours and created fascinating assemblages from the waste paper that he collected in the street. These found objects embody both the beauty and the monstrousness of the metropolis; they make the city palpable in a very literal way.
