GALERIE EXPÉRIMENTALE
Postcorps
May 13 - 22, 2022
Centre de création contemporaine Olivier Debré - Tours
What is a body? A distinct, organic entity and the site of a coherent subjectivity? Against such conventional definitions, many queer feminists have sought to denaturalize and rethink bodies by considering them as a sedimentation of gestures, contacts and affects or by thinking of them as a biological, technological and textual archive. These alternative views remind us that bodies have a history that is both intimate and political, that they are permeable and permutable, and that they are interdependent on their social and technological environments.
The exhibition "Postcorps" seeks to explore how such approaches that disturb and renew our understanding of the body find an echo in abstraction. If it is often considered an antonym of embodiment, "Postcorps" takes the gamble that abstraction represents a vital means of apprehending bodily experiences in all their complexity, their potentialities and their ambiguous materiality.
