"Espace Tal Coat"
Since June 30th, 2019
A new permanent course dedicated to the artist Pierre Tal Coat (1905-1985), was inaugurated in 2019. The Morbihan department keeps an exceptional collection of more than 1200 works. On the second floor of the castle, eight rooms allow visitors to explore 60 years of research and creation. This son of a Breton fisherman, friend of Alberto Giacometti, became a major figure in French painting in the second half of the 20th century (Venice Biennale in 1956, retrospective at the Grand Palais in 1976, exhibition at the New Museum in New York in 1985).
The collection
The Tal Coat collection (1905-1985), initiated in 2007 by the Department of Morbihan as part of the creation, at Kerguéhennec, of a research center dedicated to this major 20th century painter, is the result of the commitment of a community and the support of collectors. Over the years, a collection of paintings, drawings, watercolors and engravings has been created, which today constitutes the focus of a work that will be maintained by the eyes of artists, poets, art historians, critics, collectors and, more generally, amateurs, in the noblest sense of the word, and the comparison of works, contemporary with those of Tal Coat and of our time.
In May 2011, at the Domaine de Kerguéhennec, were held days of study, meetings and exchanges around the work of Pierre Tal Coat, with interventions of painters, poets, an art historian, a psychoanalyst, an editor ... Find the proceedings of this day in the publication Tal Coat. Meetings 2011.
