SMITH is guest artist-professor at Le Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains for the 2023-2024 season.
Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains is an institution for artistic, audiovisual and digital training, production and dissemination. Its aim is to enable young creators from all over the world to create works using professional technical resources and a broad decompartmentalization of different means of expression. The theoretical and practical scope of work covers all audiovisual languages, from traditional silver and electronic media (photography, cinema and video) to digital creation.
Opened in October 1997 in Tourcoing, it is housed on the site of a former popular entertainment complex, open from 1905 to 1977, from which Franco-Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi constructed an entirely new building, while preserving the spaces of the old one, widely acclaimed in France and abroad as one of the most original works of contemporary architecture.
Le Fresnoy - Studio national is co-financed by the French Ministry of Culture and the Hauts-de-France Region, with the participation of the City of Tourcoing. Alain Fleischer was entrusted with its design, artistic direction and teaching.
