A cità, Collection Centre Méditerranéen de la Photographie, Musée de Bastia - Palais des Gouverneurs

The Centre méditerranéen de la photographie has been present in Corsica since 1990. In addition to the exhibitions we present, we create spaces for encounters and social dialogue by defending a cultural and artistic model that is accessible and connected to contemporary realities in an increasingly divided world. We promote creativity and encourage young people to think critically, seeing photography as a way of teaching them how to look at society. Our actions generate meaning and economic activity. From 2026 to 2027, the Ministry of Culture will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the invention of photography, which, from analogue to digital, is more responsive than ever to the demands of creativity. The Centre méditerranéen de la photographie has a heritage of works by artists of different styles and origins, relating to Corsica, the Mediterranean and beyond.Artificial intelligence represents a veritable social phenomenon that is overturning our practices and transforming our perception of the world. That's why it's so important today to give people access to the original work and make them aware of its values. A Cità’, an exhibition on the theme of the city, is based on this collection of over two thousand works.

The exhibition route is punctuated by five sequences that highlight the Mediterranean city through a selection of fine art, documentary and reportage photographs. Urbs utopia invites us to enter the ephemeral studio that Georges Rousse has set up in cities. Face à face invites our gaze to rest on Stéphane Couturier's recomposed façades. De jour comme de nuit presents the instinctive and mysterious vision of Dolorès Marat, who composes her dreamlike universe from the artificial lighting of the city and the movement of young people photographed under a zenithal light by Laurent van der Stockt. Inhabiting the city, with portraits by Valérie Rouyer, Jean-François Joly and Paulo Nozolino, places people in their intimate daily lives, inside and out. Finally, with Valérie Belin's sublime trompe-l'œil in black and white, Esprit baroque takes us into the singular world of Dominique Degli Esposti, who we miss so much...
