Aubusson Nouvelle Génération

The Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la Tapisserie contemporaine welcomes the Cité internationale de la tapisserie for a joint exhibition focusing on contemporary tapestry.

Created in 2009 following UNESCO's recognition of the art of Aubusson tapestry as an ‘intangible heritage of humanity’, the Cité internationale de la tapisserie is more than just a museum: its mission is to protect weaving skills and ensure that they are passed on through ambitious creation policies.

From the outset, the Cité has developed a number of contemporary creation programmes, through artistic commissions and sponsorship to bring together the region's tapestry artisans and today's artists. This investment is also reflected in the renewed interest in the textile arts on today's art market.

This exhibition focuses on the dialogue between the designer and the weaver, with original works that straddle the boundary between the plastic arts and design, between references to the past and innovation. This selection of pieces will introduce visitors to the new generation of Aubusson designers!
