As a new guest artist in the INSTANTS residency at Château Palmer, SMITH discovers an almost genetic link with the estate. An intimate relationship develops with the land, leading him to explore the resonances of the past, the strata of the present and the secret ramifications of the living. From vines to compost, he refines his sensitivity to ghosts and shapes his own visions through trance.
Working in neon, burnt wood, sculpture and thermograms, SMITH celebrates the porosity of the body and the abolition of boundaries. His new artistic cycle, Dami, blends intimate investigation and psychogeography around the theme of connection, roots and faith. Born amidst the vineyards of Château Palmer, it has since spread to other territories, from the deserts of California to the forests of Amazonia.
The images resulting from this residency will be exhibited at the Galerie Leica in Paris, rue Boissy d'Anglas, from April 2025, then at the MAC VAL, Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne, in winter 2025-2026. They will be accompanied by an artist's book published by Filigranes.
