Assemblies, crafts and other fun or surprising suggestions

‘Assemblages, bricolages et autres propositions ludiques ou surprenantes’

Exhibition at the Abbaye Saint André-Centre d'art contemporain
From 5 July to 5 October 2025

Art is a powerful way of situating oneself in relation to the complexity of the world.
For the artist, its practice responds to a need to act, and even more to create, and in doing so to surprise and to be surprised. It's an exercise in intellectual and gestural freedom that defies physical constraints and twists cultural and social habits. As in play, the exercise may seem gratuitous at first sight, but it responds to the vital need to go beyond appearances.

The artist tinkers, assembling ideas, materials and forms without necessarily having a project other than simply doing. At first glance, the works that will be brought together do not seem to have any other need for the artist than to experiment with new combinations and the resulting surprise.

Their unforeseen, incongruous aspect, sometimes with a touch of humour or even absurdity (parody is an underlying theme), is not, however, inoperative either for the artist, who is thus testing limits, or for all those who, challenged and curious, discover them and whose certainties they upset.
