Feminist struggles have rarely been viewed through the lens of humor. Yet as early as the 1960s, artists began turning it into a joyful and biting force of resistance.
Through mockery, irony, and absurdity, they subvert clichés, overturn social expectations, and challenge sexist norms—never shying away from self-deprecation. Collages, videos, slogans, performances, drawings: so many ways to scratch away imposed roles and transform art into an act of resistance.
La Marrade explores these forms of visual humor in which artistic expression becomes a free and irreverent statement.
Curated by Camille Paulhan, in collaboration with Hanna Alkema, with the assistance of Margaux Savignac.
