Pablo Tomek originates from the world of graffiti, which he engages with in an experimental and illicit manner through his collective, PAL. In the studio, the artist refines his practice by weaving together the heritage of graffiti with abstract expressionist painting. He also draws on techniques and aesthetics from industrial and working-class environments, such as remixing Spanish white, crafting sculptures from raw cinder blocks with colored, degraded mortar, and reinterpreting fluorescent markings used by architects, as well as repurposing discarded objects found in the streets. Through these approaches, he creates a new, often unfinished language that exists at the crossroads of marginal art practices, urban regeneration, and the complex dynamics of institutionalization and gentrification.
