CEIJA STOJKA : NE ME RACONTE PAS D'HISTOIRE

NOUKA MAXIMOFF & ELORA WEILL-ENGERER

Saturday, February 28th, 16h

On the occasion of the final day of the exhibition Ceija Stojka, The Day Has Only One Day. at the Galerie de Paris (front space), and the publication of the book of the same title by Éditions Sombres torrents in the Mémoires vives series, we will have the pleasure of welcoming Nouka Maximoff and Elora Weill-Engerer for a session of storytelling and readings.

Nouka Maximoff draws her stories from her Romani origins and from the history of her people. From her family history, her childhood lived between nomadism and sedentariness, and her readings—particularly the books of her father, the writer Matéo Maximoff—Nouka weaves a memory made up of words, imagination, and a diversity of recollections.

Elora Weill-Engerer is a curator, art critic, and art historian. Her research focuses particularly on Romani, Manouche, and Gitano identities in contemporary art, the question of stereotypes, and the political portrait of the artist as a nomad. She is currently preparing a doctoral dissertation on the construction of Romani political identity through contemporary art, under the supervision of Pierre Wat and Elvan Zabunyan (ED-441, HiCSA, Université Paris 1). She teaches at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and at the École du Louvre.
