Pierre-Yves Bohm : un dialogue entre matière et humanité

14 November - 21 December 2024 Bruxelles / Main space

For his first solo show in Belgium, Pierre-Yves Bohm (b. 1951 in Roncq, lives and works in Roubaix), a singular figure in French contemporary art, unveils an exceptional body of work, enriched by new creations, and takes over the first floor of Galerie Christophe Gaillard in Brussels from November 14 to December 21, 2024.

Pierre-Yves Bohm transcends traditional art classifications. Between introspection and metamorphosis, the work of this painter and sculptor is based on a delicate balance between figuration and transformation, destruction and reconstruction. His work reflects a profound quest: to probe, without concession, the mysteries of the human condition. With his unique approach to material, Bohm cuts, sews, pierces and assembles his canvases and materials to create vibrant compositions that tell or conceal a story, often inspired by the current events of a world that troubles this ultra-sensitive artist.

Pierre-Yves Bohm has also developed a unique technique of micro-perforating the canvas, enabling him to scrape the paint from behind. This complex, meticulous process adds a unique dimension to his works, enriching their texture and depth, and revealing details of rare subtlety.

The works created by the artist straddle the border between painting, sculpture and assemblage. His creations are meticulous and slow, with some works requiring up to six months of maturation and work, making each of his exhibitions all the more precious! It's an approach that goes against the grain of today's pace, but underscores the uniqueness and depth of his work. Bohm takes the time necessary to reinvent his plastic language, offering us a profound reflection on what it means to be.

Pierre-Yves Bohm's work is part of institutional collections such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tourcoing and the FRAC Normandie in Rouen. His work can also be found in major private collections, such as that of Antoine de Galbert in Paris.

This exhibition, a veritable visual and emotional voyage, plunges the viewer into the fascinating world of Pierre-Yves Bohm, an artist whose work oscillates between violence and gentleness, in terms of both matter and people. Each work invites reflection, contemplation and, above all, self-exploration through texture, form and color. Visitors will be transported into a world where every fragment, every stitch, every brushstroke, sometimes microscopic, tells the story of a humanity both vulnerable and resilient.
